Spain to Acquire 30 Turkish-Made Hürjet Trainer Jets

Spain has signed a €2.4 billion ($2.8 billion) agreement with Türkiye to purchase 30 Hürjet jet trainer aircraft, marking a historic export success for Türkiye’s defense industry. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2028.

The Hürjet, Türkiye’s first domestically designed and manufactured jet trainer, will be part of a comprehensive training package that includes advanced pilot training, ground-based simulators, maintenance infrastructure, and long-term operational support. Officials said the deal underscores Türkiye’s growing reputation as a trusted exporter in the global defense market and highlights its capabilities in design, production, system integration, and certification.

The program builds on earlier agreements signed in May and October, reflecting Spain’s commitment to modernizing its fighter pilot training systems using the supersonic, domestically produced aircraft. Türkiye’s Hürjet project began in 2017, with the aircraft completing its maiden flight in April 2023.
