President Volodymyr Zelensky has put the G7 and all of Ukraine’s international partners on notice, issuing his most direct demand yet for the game-changing air defense systems he says are vital for his country’s survival and for achieving peace.
“I call for action from the US, Europe, the G7 and all partners who possess these systems and can provide them to Kyiv,” Zelensky stated, leaving no room for ambiguity. He specifically named the “Patriot, NASAMS, SAMP/T” as the “vital systems” required to counter Russia’s aerial bombardment.
This demand is not framed as a simple request for aid, but as a necessary action for the entire world. He argued that depriving Russia of its ability to terrorize Ukrainian cities is the “most reliable foundation for peace in our region,” making the provision of these systems an investment in global security.
To add weight to his demand, he strategically referenced the successful US-led diplomacy in the Gaza conflict. This serves as a reminder to the G7 of what is possible when its most powerful member acts decisively, subtly pressuring them to support a similar push for Ukraine.
The context for this demand is the ongoing destruction of civilian infrastructure, including a hospital and energy facilities. Zelensky is telling the world’s most powerful nations that they possess the tools to stop this, and the time for excuses is over.
