In a significant step towards enhancing economic ties, Thai Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul held discussions with key figures from the EU–ASEAN Business Council (EU-ABC) and the European Association for Business and Commerce (EABC). The central focus of the meeting was to explore avenues for expanding trade, investment, and economic collaboration between Thailand and the European Union.
The meeting was attended by a diverse delegation comprising representatives from over 40 leading European companies. These companies spanned a wide range of sectors, including healthcare, finance, automotive, energy, technology, agriculture, tourism, and consumer goods, highlighting the broad scope of potential partnerships.
Prime Minister Anutin emphasized the importance of Europe as a vital economic partner for Thailand. He outlined the Thai government’s strategic plan to bolster the country’s competitiveness on the global stage. This three-pronged strategy includes developing infrastructure in digital, artificial intelligence, and clean energy sectors, enhancing transport and logistics networks, and improving the overall investment climate through regulatory reforms and Thailand’s efforts to join the OECD.
The Thai government also expressed its ambition to establish the country as a regional hub in several key industries, such as semiconductor manufacturing, clean energy, artificial intelligence, digital technology, life sciences, modern agriculture, and food production. This ambition aligns with their broader goal of elevating Thailand’s economic profile in the region.
Furthermore, Thailand reaffirmed its commitment to advancing negotiations for the Thailand–EU Free Trade Agreement. This agreement is anticipated to significantly enhance market access for Thai products and open up new business opportunities within the European Union, thereby strengthening the economic partnership between the two regions.
