Although laboratory testing is the most reliable method for confirming food purity, consumers can perform a few simple checks at home to detect possible adulteration.

Turmeric powder is one ingredient that can be tested for purity using a straightforward method. Consumers can place a small amount of turmeric powder in a glass of water and observe the reaction. Pure turmeric typically settles at the bottom without immediately coloring the water. If the powder quickly releases a bright yellow hue throughout the water, it might suggest the presence of artificial dyes.

Similarly, chilli powder can be tested by adding it to a glass of water. Pure chilli powder usually settles slowly, while a rapid spread of a bright red color might indicate synthetic coloring agents. For milk, a simple method to check for dilution involves placing a drop of milk on a clean, smooth, slanted surface. Pure milk tends to flow slowly, leaving behind a visible white trail, whereas diluted milk flows more quickly and leaves little or no trace.

Tea powder can also be examined by adding a spoonful to a glass of cold water. Pure tea leaves generally do not release color immediately. If the water changes color quickly, it may indicate the presence of added dyes or coloring substances. While these home tests cannot provide conclusive evidence of adulteration and should not replace professional laboratory analysis, they offer preliminary checks for consumers concerned about the quality of everyday food ingredients.

To ensure food safety, consumers should purchase products from reputable brands, carefully check packaging details, and store ingredients properly. These simple measures, combined with at-home testing, can help maintain the quality and safety of food items commonly used in daily life.
