Petrol prices in Spain have climbed for the 11th consecutive week, with more than 150 service stations in Aragón now charging over €2 per litre. As of September 17, the national average price for regular petrol reached €1.866 per litre, showing a 2.88% increase from the previous week. Diesel prices also rose to €1.834 per litre after a temporary decline.
The upward trend in fuel costs is largely driven by rising global oil prices, exacerbated by disruptions in energy supplies from the Middle East. These factors are impacting Spain, a country heavily reliant on imported crude oil, with international price hikes being passed on to consumers at the pump.
Compounding the issue, Spain’s government-provided fuel discount is set to expire on September 30. This temporary measure currently eases costs by 5 cents per litre for petrol and 20 cents for diesel. Without this relief, industry experts predict that diesel prices could surpass €2 per litre, and petrol prices may also approach this threshold.
Motorists are advised to compare prices across service stations, as there are significant variations in fuel costs. With household expenses on the rise, finding more affordable options could offer some financial relief to drivers concerned about the increasing price of fuel.
