Türkiye and Armenia Leaders Push Forward in Normalization Talks

In a recent phone conversation, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan discussed the progress of the ongoing normalization process between Türkiye and Armenia, as well as key developments in the region. This dialogue highlights the continuing efforts to mend relations between the two nations after years of tension.

During the call, Pashinyan took the opportunity to convey Eid al-Adha greetings to Erdoğan. The leaders reviewed the steps taken to improve bilateral ties, with an emphasis on direct trade and economic cooperation. Erdoğan reiterated Türkiye’s dedication to fostering peace, stability, and security in the region through these normalization efforts.

This conversation marks a significant moment in the gradual rapprochement between Ankara and Yerevan, showcasing a commitment to dialogue and confidence-building. Both countries have been actively working to enhance their relationship since the launch of the normalization process in late 2021, which began with the appointment of special envoys to facilitate negotiations.

Notable advancements in their relationship include the resumption of commercial flights in 2022, which has been a key step in improving connectivity. These efforts are part of a larger initiative to promote regional stability and boost economic integration in the South Caucasus, a region that stands to benefit from increased cooperation between Türkiye and Armenia.
