Spain Faces Temperature Swings and Severe Weather Warnings This Weekend

Date:

Spain is gearing up for a significant weather transition this weekend, as temperatures in some inland areas are expected to plummet to as low as 3°C before a warm spell returns across much of the country. Central and northern regions will experience chilly morning conditions, while southern parts are predicted to see afternoon highs surpassing 30°C.

Inland cities such as Ávila are anticipated to reach lows of 3°C, with Segovia dropping to 4°C. Other cities, including Burgos, León, Salamanca, and Huesca, may see temperatures around 5°C, marking a sharp contrast to the warmer southern regions.

Southern cities, including Seville and Huelva, could experience temperatures reaching 31°C, while Granada, Málaga, and Almería are likely to see highs around 27°C. Cádiz and Córdoba are forecasted to reach approximately 28°C. As a result, residents and visitors may need to plan their attire accordingly, starting with warm clothing in the morning and switching to lighter outfits by the afternoon.

The weather shift is accompanied by warnings of heavy rain, thunderstorms, strong winds, and rough seas in several regions, particularly along the Mediterranean coast and in southern Spain. Girona’s coastline is under orange warnings for strong winds and waves of three to four meters, while Menorca could see waves reaching four to five meters, driven by strong northerly winds. Areas such as Mallorca, Ceuta, and Lanzarote are also under alerts for adverse weather conditions.

These warnings suggest potential disruptions to ferry services, coastal walks, and other outdoor activities, prompting travelers to check local forecasts and advisories before making plans. Despite the current cold snap, temperatures are expected to rise over the weekend, with warmer air spreading across Spain from October 12. Cities like Badajoz, Córdoba, Huelva, Ourense, and Seville may once again experience temperatures exceeding 30°C, while Madrid could see temperatures around 25°C.

The return of warmer conditions is expected to bring temperatures above seasonal averages, making it feel more like late summer than autumn in many areas of Spain next week.
