Meta Introduces Camera-Free AI Glasses to Address Privacy Concerns

Date:

Meta has introduced a new line of AI-powered smart glasses, including a camera-free model designed to alleviate privacy concerns associated with wearable technology. The audio-only glasses, priced at $349, will be available from October 13. This model marks a departure from Meta’s previous iterations of smart glasses, which included cameras for capturing photos and videos.

While privacy features, such as a visible recording indicator, remain integral to Meta’s camera-equipped models, the new camera-free design aims to address increasing apprehensions about user privacy. Alongside this, Meta also unveiled updated versions of its smart glasses that incorporate display capabilities, starting at $799, which are expected to be available in more international markets soon.

The company revealed additional advancements in its wearable technology lineup, including lighter mixed-reality glasses powered by an external battery and memory pack. These glasses are slated for release in spring 2027, with a starting price of $1,299, as part of Meta’s strategy to expand its presence in the mixed-reality space.

In tandem with the new hardware, Meta has highlighted Muse, an AI-powered personal assistant designed to facilitate tasks such as appointment scheduling, making calls, and connecting with various services. By integrating AI glasses with Muse, Meta is positioning these innovations as central elements of its broader consumer AI strategy.
